[NOV. 25, 2017 - Shanghai] This summer, NAMA Board Member Larry Atnip and his wife Kathy attended the 2nd China International Vending & OCS Showcase (Beijing) 2017 representing NAMA and the U.S. convenience services industry in Beijing, China.
“I was honored to represent NAMA at this year’s China Vending and OCS Showcase,” Atnip said. “Visiting China was a fantastic experience. The Chinese are pioneering vending into their business and industry, and with one billion consumers the opportunities are massive. It was wonderful to meet the operators and manufacturers and learn more about their experience in this industry. I hope my presentation and discussions with the Chinese vending community helps further NAMA’s goal to create greater collaboration with our Chinese colleagues and other industry colleagues around the world.”

In recent years, Beijing has developed into the largest economic metropolis in northern China, and is a hub of international food imports, covering 46 % of all China food imports. Beijing is also a capital city in ancient China with many must-visit historic attractions including the Great Wall, Forbidden City, Summer Palace and the Temple of Heaven.

With the increasing popularity and widespread applications of the internet, big data, cloud and AI technologies in China, the Chinese vending industry has experienced unprecedented, rapid growth. The number of vending machines (mainly beverage and snack food vending machines) on location has increased by 80% from nearly 100,000 units in 2014 up to more than 180,000 units in 2016. Backed by the advancement of the Chinese vending industry, the “2nd China International Vending & OCS Showcase (Beijing) 2017” was held alongside the ANUFOOD China 2017 August 30-September 1, 2017 at the China International Exhibition Center in Beijing.
The Organizer of the China Vending Showcase, Shanghai WeShow Events Ltd. created a specialized vending & OCS zone at the ANUFOOD China 2017 in collaboration with Koelnmesse China, the largest food and beverage trade fair in north China. During the show, Atnip visited with two leading Chinese vending manufacturers: (1) Hunan Kimma Intelligent Equipment Manufacture Co., Ltd., which specializes in manufacturing beverage and snack vending machines in China, and (2) Hangzhou JiJia Catering Service Co., Ltd. which has developed a new generation of coffee vending machines equipped with European core components, IoT, cashless payment system, telemetry and operation management software. JiJia is focused on developing unattended coffee bars/cafés throughout China.

The NAMA booth attracted a lot of visitors from China and many other countries. One of the most frequent questions he encountered was “How can a Chinese company establish business relations with American companies?” Atnip talked to visitors about the value of becoming an international member of NAMA and exhibiting at the NAMA Show, including the opportunity to network directly with other NAMA members and exhibitors at the world’s largest gathering of convenience services professionals. Atnip’s presentation at the 2nd Worldwide Vending Industry Forum was hailed as a tremendous success by show organizers. More than 80 attendees came to learn about present and emerging trends within the U.S. convenience services industry, and were at the ready with their questions. Many were very interested in the operation of micro markets, given great interest by the Chinese vending industry to bring micro markets over to China.
The next edition of China Vending Showcase (Beijing) 2018 will be held on November 21-23, 2018 at China National Convention Center (CNCC), Beijing, China. For details please visit the show website at
